E-UMZUG: report your move to the authorities online

E-UMZUG is Switzerland’s electronic moving service. Instead of appearing in person at the municipality, you report your move conveniently online – the residents’ registration office, the post and other bodies are informed automatically. Here’s how it works.

How E-UMZUG works in 5 steps

The process is simple and fully digital. You only need a Swiss-Login (SwissID), which you can create for free.

  • Open the eumzug.ch portal and log in with SwissID
  • Enter the moving date, old and new address
  • Register all moving persons (children under 18 automatically)
  • Choose recipients: residents’ registration office, post, other bodies
  • Check the data and submit – the authorities are informed automatically

Who is informed via E-UMZUG?

Notifying the residents’ registration office of the new municipality is mandatory and required in Switzerland within 14 days. You can add other recipients voluntarily.

  • Residents’ registration office of the new municipality (mandatory)
  • Canton and municipality / tax authorities (mandatory)
  • Swiss Post – change of address and forwarding (optional)
  • Army or civil protection (if applicable)
  • Other connected bodies depending on the canton
