Now it gets concrete. Sort out what shouldn’t move with you – this saves volume and costs.

- Get packing material

4 weeks before: change of address
Inform all important offices about your new address so nothing gets lost.
- Set up a forwarding order with the post office
- Residents’ registration: plan deregistration and registration (mandatory within 14 days in Switzerland)
- Inform insurers, bank, employer and subscriptions
- Transfer electricity, internet and phone providers
Moving week & moving day
The last days are for the finishing touches. Pack a box with everything you need on the first evening.
- Defrost the fridge, prepare appliances
- Pack a "first-night box" (toiletries, chargers, bedding)
- Read and document meter readings
- Carry out the flat handover with a protocol
2 weeks before: address changes & contracts
Now inform all important bodies of your new address. Forgetting nothing here saves you a lot of trouble later with lost mail and incorrect invoices.
- Set up the Post forwarding order
- Register with the residents’ office (E-UMZUG) and check Serafe
- Inform health insurance, insurers and bank
- Update your address with telecom providers (Swisscom, Sunrise, Wingo) and subscriptions
After the move: don’t forget
Even after moving day, a few important tasks remain. Getting them done quickly helps you settle into the new home.
- Old flat handover: secure the protocol and deposit return
- Have furniture assembled and appliances connected
- Put your name on the letterbox and doorbell
- Get to know the new neighbours and caretaker
